These 2 days, I wasn't studying. But I definitely did something much more meaningful than burying your ostrich head in those smelly, silly and stupid books. I dedicated my entire 2 days to service the society. We went to 2 homes. Helped to clean up, play with the elderly and talk to them.
I'm so tired but it's all worth it when they say thank you etc. I learnt some Teochew words as well. Ok lemme tell you people, who are the mighty ones who went to help out. Carolyn, Samson, Sally, Zachery, Christy, Davier, Brayden, Elwin, Delwyn, Lucas, Philander, Frederica, Ruth, Illeana, Malcom, Taylor, Fabian, Maximilian, Felix. And, the organiser, Pastor! We took this as a bonding session also, so 2-in-1 yup.
Day one started out with us reaching church at 6.45am, preparing the small gifts etc. Dad drove Davier, Brayden, Christy, Zachery, Ruth, Malcom, Felix, Delwyn and I there. Davier, Brayden, Delwyn and I squeezed at the back seats. While the skinnier ones (ON CHRISTY'S HOT DEMAND), namely Christy, Zachery, Ruth, Felix, comfortably sat at the middle seats. Who was the idiot sitting beside my dad? The most shameless person on Earth, that I'm gonna announce. He's Philander, the guy who've been playing with me in church since young, then went over to UK for studies. He finally came back. He's 29, way older than me, but he was childish and he played with young kids like us when he was a teenager, before he left for his medicine studies overseas.
Packed the small gifts and the bus came. We reached there at about 11am. Warm welcome from the elderly really make us feel that all these are worthwhile. Their smiles, that money can't buy. The thank you they say, for you helping them out. Felix, Ruth and Pastor performed a short skit in dialect which managed to make the whole hall burst in laughter because of the wrong usage etc. It was indeed nice, and Pastor haven't been having such a great time I guess.
Then we played some simple games. Hey, I thought it'll be boring but no. Followed by washing their clothes, cleaning their room, talking with them, and bring some of them around. And the Yeye I was looking after told me about his son abandoning him, and he feel much better here with these companions who are as unfortunate. The day ended about 8pm and we went back to church. Pastor treated us Swensens. So nice of you Pastor! But in return we gave him a hug each.
"Not worth my money" said Pastor.
Well, worth or not worth, it's done. Some of us went over to Pastor's place to prepare the gifts for the home we're going today. Then Dad and Mom came over to help out with the gifts also. Davier and Ruth's Mom came too, last but not least, Taylor's Dad. After helping out, Dad ordered pizzahut. We're all tired and Pastor insist that since we're tired, we can stay over. So Dad went home to get my clothes and also more clothes for Zachery and Delwyn. The other Daddy and Mommy also went back to bring the clothes down. Lucas borrowed Pastor's clothes for he say that he'll have special powers, like teleporting, flying, whatever nonsense.
The night passed fast, with us talking and fooling around. Pastor showed us some videos and his baby photos. In the morning, Pastor made nice breakfast for us. Then we went back to church to meet the rest of them. This time, Yolanda, Emma, Amy, and Walden came. Max, and Elwyn had project on, so they couldn't make it.
Like Day One, we had lunch over there, cleaned up the place, talked and played some games. Followed by story-telling and stuffs. Some of them cried upon hearing the elderly's stories, some of the elderly's cried while talking about their pasts. But, no matter what, it is still wrong for a child to abandon their parents, right?
I'm so tired, I shall sleep now. I'm meeting Zachery for a nice shopping session to reward ourselves for servicing the society. Pray hard Christy don't join along. We look at totally different things and yes, we need our MAN'S TIME.
